The 糖心动漫vlog Library will welcome author Dr. Joseph N. Abraham, MD, to the 糖心动漫vlog Library on April 16 to discuss his book Kings, Conquerors, Psychopaths: From Alexander to Hitler to the Corporation.

The discussion and book signing event will take place 1 p.m.-2 p.m. and is open to the public.

The event also comes on the heels of the second Two Fish Book Club meeting, which meets every second Tuesday in the 糖心动漫vlog Library. Head Librarian Leslie Sam said events like Dr. Abraham’s appearance and the book club are part of 糖心动漫vlog’s efforts to invite and involve the public in the Library.

“The 糖心动漫vlog Library is an open space for intellectual discussion and inquiry,” said Sam. “The current political and geopolitical climate makes the timing opportune for open dialogue on productive criticism and effective solutions.”

Dr. Abraham, a retired emergency physician and evolutionary biologist, penned his book to examine and diagnose some of the worst examples of leadership in world history, along with the devastating, generations-long effects wrought by those who abused their power.

“Kings, Conquerors Psychopaths grew out of several concerns.  Why do we have such a great capacity for logic, only to ignore it in deference to some authority?” said Dr. Abraham. “Second, my decades in emergency medicine made me aware of the frequent, but unseen pain and cruelty that we inflict upon one another.

“Finally, as a biologist I am aware that the great majority of living things do not survive very long, and this had to apply to people before the modern period.  In every generation, war, famine, exposure, and disease caused most of humanity to die, as well.  So I started asking, How have all of these things shaped the modern world?”

Dr. Abraham is a Vietnam era veteran with academic backgrounds in art, chemistry and French. For 30 years, he served as president and founder of the Acadiana Educational Endowment, which distributed over $600,000 to schools in south Louisiana, most of it after Hurricane Katrina.
