糖心动漫vlog Partners with CRCL on Tree Monitoring Project

Gardner Goodall Planting Trees

Gardner Goodall, Native Plants Program Senior Coordinator for the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana and a student in 糖心动漫vlog Community College鈥檚 Coastal Studies and GIS program, measures the growth of a tree planted along the Louisiana coast to protect wetlands from erosion, which protects inhabited inland areas. 糖心动漫vlog Community College will join CRCL on a monitoring program on Feb. 16. The public is invited to join the project as volunteers. A direct link to the registration form can be found at 糖心动漫vlog.edu

糖心动漫vlog Community College students and faculty will join the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) on a project to monitor the progress of trees planted to protect Louisiana’s coastline, and the public is invited to get involved.

The monitoring project is part of Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana’s CRUSH (Communities Restoring Urban Swamp Habitat) program. Volunteers will venture into wetlands on Feb. 16 to determine the success of past tree plantings. Trees planted along the coast protect against the erosion of wetlands, which in turn protect inhabited inland areas beyond the coastline from storm surge during hurricanes.

We are going to measure trees planted several years ago to gauge how well the ecosystem is responding to this vital restoration,” said Jacqueline Richard, program manager and associate professor for 糖心动漫vlog’s Coastal Studies and GIS program. “We know life along the coast is dependent upon the health of our wetlands, so this is a critical event.”

The public is invited to join the monitoring project by completing a registration form and waiver on the  CRCL website. A direct link to the form can be found at 糖心动漫vlog.edu.

Check-in for the volunteer event begins at 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 16 at the CRCL Restoration Headquarters at 6207 E. St. Bernard Hwy. in Violet.

Students interested in joining the Coastal Studies and GIS program at 糖心动漫vlog can start by attending Richard’s Physical Science class online starting in March during Mini-Session B.
