Position:  CNC and Machine Tool Adjunct Instructor
Division: Career and Technical Education
Reports To: Chair of PTEC, Instrumentation and Machinist

The CNC/Machine Tool Instructor plans, supports, and delivers instruction of courses in CNC and Machine Tools. The Instructor also contributes to curriculum development, program assessment activities as needed.

The ideal candidate must possess journey-level skills in CNC programming and machine tool operation as well as managing/supervising skills in a machining environment. The CNC/Machine Tool Instructor will also be responsible for the instruction and curriculum development.

Classes will take place on the 糖心动漫vlog Community College campus in Chalmette, LA during the day M-Th (could be MW or TuTh as scheduling allows) for blended courses of traditional adult students and high school dual enrollment students. If successful in the role, adjunct instructors will be invited to return in subsequent semesters. 

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Relevant Certifications (HAAS, technical training certification, etc.).

Required Experience:

  • Three (3) years CNC programming and/or machine tool operation experience in an industrial or educational environment. Including conventional (manual) machine tool operation, blueprint reading/engineering drawings, precision (and non-precision) measuring tools, conventional hand tools and layout.
  • Experience in Millwright duties and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent computer applications, particularly in using Master Cam software, Microsoft Office, and Outlook; ability to learn new software and other technology.
  • Excellent managing and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with solid interpersonal relationship skills for teaching; excellent customer service skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the content area and the ability to teach it effectively.
  • Effective classroom management, including maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Records Management.
  • Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college to achieve and uphold them.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree or higher.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in CNC 3 and 5 axis machining.
  • Experience in CNC Plasma machining.
  • Experience with CAD design programs such as Solidworks, MasterCam, AutoCad, Fusion 360 or Onshape.
  • Teaching experience.
  • NIMS Certifications (e.g. NIMS Precision Measurement, NIMS Basic Lathe, NIMS Advanced Lathe, NIMS Basic Mill, NIMS Advanced Mill, NIMS CNC, and Microsoft Fusion 360).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work days, nights and weekends (schedule may vary by semester).
  • Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, and climb.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum deliver.
